Did you know? |
|

|
|
Yes, Virginia, there really is a cat
named ELVIS!
And here he is, doing his best to get into a package under
the Christmas tree. This is the real cat that inspired the Elvis character in
Christmas at the Candle Factory!

AND...

|
 |
There really is a candle factory. It's located in
Davisburg, Michigan in an historic building just like the one in our two
Candle Factory titles. And there really was a cat named Midnight who "worked" there. Check
out the candles from the Davisburg Candle Factory by clicking on the
building (at left).

Barbara L. Johns is
a native of Covington, Ohio, who moved to Michigan after graduating from
Miami University in Oxford, OH. She
began her writing career at the J.L. Hudson Company (now Macy's) where she
developed merchandise publicity and corporate training events. Later she wrote
short stories for corporate magazines and Christmas articles for the Detroit
Free Press. She also served as Public Relations Coordinator for her local public
school system. Johns knows the story of the cat in the candle factory intimately
since she once owned the Candle Factory—and the cat! Married, mother of three children,
and grandmother of Kara and Kate, she divides her year between homes in Michigan and California with her husband and her dog, Bart (Bart is lobbying for
a book of his own). A student's interview with Barb

piles of papers. Her illustrations are done in traditional techniques of pen and ink with a watercolor
wash and more recently with colored pencil. Carolyn
enjoys visiting schools and introducing children to the exciting role of a
picture book illustrator. She loves to share her interaction with the authors,
her research tools, and her techniques while she draws for the students. She
also provides activities for the children to promote their own creative
abilities.
